We are designing next-generation AI agents for reservoir engineers, geoscientists and broader energy applications: intelligent partners that augment human expertise, streamline complex workflows and unlock new efficiencies — not just for our own projects, but as a leasable service to the wider energy industry.
Our design philosophy is modular, adaptable and human-centric. We are not building monolithic black boxes; we are architecting a suite of specialised yet interconnected agents that collaborate and can be customised for specific client needs.
I. Core architectural principles
- Modular micro-agent design. Instead of one giant "Reservoir Engineer Agent", a constellation of micro-agents each specialising in a core task — History Matching, Production Forecasting, EOR Screening, Seismic Facies Classification, Predictive Maintenance for turbomachinery — built on a microservices-like architecture so each can be deployed, scaled and updated independently, and clients can lease only the capabilities they need.
- Layered intelligence. A data ingestion and processing layer with robust connectors to seismic volumes, well logs, production databases, sensor data, geological reports and market data (cleaning, validation, normalisation, feature engineering); a core AI/ML model layer — CNNs for seismic and image analysis, RNNs/LSTMs for time-series production data, physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) that integrate domain knowledge with data, spatio-temporal learning as demonstrated in our Malaysian field study, anomaly detection, optimisation solvers, reinforcement learning for control and forecasting models; a knowledge and reasoning layer built on knowledge graphs from industry literature, project data and client information; and an interaction and orchestration layer where an Orchestrator Agent coordinates workflows — for example a Seismic Interpretation Agent feeding a Reservoir Modelling Agent.
- Human-in-the-loop and explainability. Our agents are assistants, not replacements. Critical decision points always involve human oversight, and XAI techniques provide transparency into how agents reach conclusions so experts can validate or correct the reasoning.
- Data security and governance. Multi-tenancy for leased agents is designed with strict data isolation and security from the ground up; compliance with industry data standards and client-specific governance is paramount.
- Scalability and interoperability. Cloud-native for scale, with edge capabilities for real-time on-site processing (for example drilling-optimisation agents), and APIs for integration with existing ecosystems such as Petrel, GOCAD and OSIsoft PI.

Reservoir Engineer AI Agent Suite
Objective: accelerate and enhance reservoir characterisation, simulation and management.
- Automated History Matching Agent — ML rapidly iterates simulation parameters, learning from dynamic production data for faster, more robust matches.
- Production Forecasting & Uncertainty Quantification Agent — probabilistic forecasts with uncertainty envelopes.
- EOR Screening Agent — reservoir, fluid and economic parameters analysed to recommend optimal EOR methods.
- Well Placement Optimisation Agent — geospatial data and simulation outputs suggest optimal new-well locations.
- Reservoir Surveillance Agent — continuous monitoring of production and injection data to flag water breakthrough, injectivity decline and other deviations.
Geoscientist AI Agent Suite
Objective: expedite interpretation, reduce subsurface uncertainty and identify new exploration opportunities.
- Intelligent Seismic Interpretation Agent — fault detection, horizon tracking and facies classification using computer vision and deep learning.
- Automated Well Log Analysis Agent — lithology, porosity, permeability and fluid saturation from standard logs.
- Basin Modelling & Petroleum Systems Agent — source-rock maturation, migration and trapping.
- Geospatial Data Integration Agent — fusing maps, remote sensing, seismic and well data into comprehensive subsurface models.

Energy Systems AI Agent Suite
Objective: optimise production, transmission, distribution and consumption; enhance safety and sustainability.
- Predictive Maintenance Agent — sensor data from turbines, pumps and transformers used to predict failure and optimise maintenance.
- Process Optimisation Agent — real-time parameter adjustment for refineries, LNG plants and renewable farms.
- Energy Demand & Supply Forecasting Agent — demand and renewable generation forecasts for grid balancing and trading.
- Emissions Monitoring & Reduction Agent — tracking emissions and suggesting operational changes to support ESG goals.
- Pipeline Integrity Agent — anomaly detection on pipeline sensors to predict leaks and integrity issues.

- Augmenting expertise. Agents act as tireless assistants for data-intensive and repetitive tasks, freeing experts for higher-value interpretation, strategic decisions and innovation — rapidly generating scenarios, highlighting anomalies and surfacing insights manual analysis would miss.
- Internal application and refinement. We first deploy and rigorously test agents on Senergy's own consultancy projects and through the Technology Hub's validation process, with our deepwater, oil-rim and recovery-factor work as the proving ground.
- Agent-as-a-Service. A subscription model for specific micro-agents or suites; customisation and fine-tuning on client data; a secure cloud platform with on-premise or edge deployment where needed; API access for integration into existing tools; and a consultancy wrap-around from our AI engineers and domain specialists to ensure deployment, integration and value realisation.
